4 NON BLONDES - WHAT'S UP?
We've covered the 4 Non Blondes classic, 'What's Up?' I remember hearing this song all the time on the radio when it came out, I was so into it, but didn't really get what it was about. But I remember my older sister and her friends singing it really loudly on the school bus. That was awesome. WHAT'S GOING ON? Also we're on tour this week, come see us!

STYLE DISSECTION: MOONRISE KINGDOM

I had forgotten how sweet the love story between Suzy and Sam is in Moonrise Kingdom. They're two lost souls, both young (very young in fact - the actors were only about 12 at the time of production) who run away together after meeting backstage at a school play. Oh crap - SPOILER ALERT, sorry. It's risky to hang a story off two actors who are pretty green, the supporting cast is brilliant, but we have to really care about Sam and Suzy or the film doesn't work. Which is especially challenging when you mix in Wes Anderson's writing and directing style. While his shots are always full of perfectly picked and placed props, the emotions expressed by the characters are minimal and subdued. I think most teenagers who run away together aren't as collected as Sam and Suzy, I feel like there would be more tears and outbursts and less dancing in underwear, but it doesn't matter. It's beautiful. Sam breaks your heart when he talks about being misunderstood by his peers in the orphanage where he lives, and Suzy is one of those people who seems like she's sorted and knows what's up, but underneath is definitely a big quivering mess.
This is them when they first meet. Sam is in his "at home" Scout uniform. Yellow and green of course. And Suzy is playing a bird in the play. She did her own makeup and it's fabulous.

After this meeting Suzy gives Sam her address, charmingly written on the playbill. And so he writes to her, while his pals fix cars in the background and he's wearing his stripy jumpsuit.

Suzy writes back from her home, Summers End. I really enjoy the work of her little brothers, who are obsessed with musical instruments and orchestras. They seem to be very serious, and I like serious children. I also like Suzy's outfit, peter pan collar blouse with a checked pinafore dress. She tells Sam about the trouble she gets into at school, writing her confessions on pink paper.

This is her getting into trouble at school. She has a different coloured pinafore dress from the other girls because she's special.

Now this is important guys. You need to pay attention. Suzy has this same dress in several different fabrics, below we have it in red and white gingham.

That blue eyeshadow <3 You just know it has a sickly sweet floral smell.
And then on the day she runs away she's wearing the same dress in this thicker jacquard pink material. She knows what suits her I guess.

Sam arrives in his "away" Scout uniform, still yellow and green but far more suitable for outside and difficult terrains.

Sam has brought his crucial water supply, sleeping bag and tent. Suzy has bought her cat, binoculars and record player.

Look at their little faces, I just want to squeeze them and go, "Aw you're so cute!" in a really patronising way.

Sam has a lot of badges, buttons and pins on his uniform, all of which I covet.

He also has this super dope canoe. Who doesn't love a cool guy with a sweet ride?

Hey, are you looking for a really good idea for a Halloween outfit? - see below.

In her mustard suitcase Suzy has brought a lot of books, all with excellent illustrated covers. This is an Anderson joint, what did you expect?! She tells Sam he can borrow them. I would borrow them and never give them back.

Sam is more into painting, and after setting up camp, Suzy and her cat pose for him on the pebbles.

Then they put daisies in their hair and my heart cannot stand it and explodes all over the screen.

I'd forgotten how awkward and therefore realistic the scene on the sand is, when they dance and then kiss. They look so uncomfortable and nervous and it's freaking adorable.

Suzy has several pairs of saddle shoes in different colours. I think the red and white ones are my favourite. They're not pictured here and for that I can only apologise. This shot is ideal Instagram fodder though, amirite?

Oh crap, the parents have found them. Suzy and Sam are busted the next morning, sleeping in their little yellow tent.

Secretly I'm really happy at this point of the film because I know it means we're shortly going to see Jason Schwartzman looking unbelievably cool as a badass and morally dubious Scout Leader. Look at him. Look also at Suzy's pink cape and berry beret.

This outfit below is outstanding. The combination of her knee high socks and those red saddle shoes I was talking about earlier, is radder than a rad thing that gets made Mayor of Rad Town.

SERIOUSLY

I don't want to spoil this bit of the film for you so let's just focus on the final outfits in the film. Suzy in that same old dress but this time the fabric is yellow. Because Sam was wearing yellow. I die. She also has a bug earring which is a really important plot point (kind of), but you need to find out about that for yourself.

Sam meanwhile is wearing his mini Island Police uniform because something really lovely and moving has happened.

It has something to do with this guy on the left...

Who looks pretty fresh you have to admit.
Close up of their outfits? You got it.

That's true love. And I felt it. Although I possibly felt more true love for Suzy's house because I'm a grown up and am into property and having nice shelves and a window seat.

I actually tried to dress like Suzy the other day in some Dahlia clothes. That's here. Sam + Suzy 4eva.

GUCCI SS16 DREAM

What is going on here? There is so much going on here! Margot Tenenbaum if she wasn't depressed and maybe felt more comfortable in florals. And gold gloves covered in rings. Lux Lisbon if she had grown up and moved to a big city and got a job in a law firm. Bows that would intimidate even Blair Waldorf, and elegant mary janes with studs on the straps. Leather skirts with flower appliques, painted dresses, and a white frickin' suit with a green frickin' snake climbing up the leg. If this is what's happening next year, I'm in. It also reminds me a bit of Sretsis' latest campaign, which is very Labyrinth, very '70s, very floral.

A BIT OF BODEN
Here are a few things you might not know about Boden.
1. They make amazing glittery '60s go-go boots.
2. They're part of the HERproject. Which aimes to increase knowledge, improve behaviour and provide a wider access to critical health services for women working in factories.
3. They use recyclable and renewable products for their catalogues and offer cards. And they work with Rainforest Concern to help preserve and maintain 1300 acres of rainforest in Colombia and Ecuador. *Tree emoji*
4. This pink '60s inspired skirt is possibly the most beautifully tailored skirt I've ever worn.
5. They do a lot of British tweed and kilts. Cher Horowitz eat your heart out.
6. This leather jacket I'm wearing smells like heaven and also comes in pale blue. And the shoes are unexpectedly very comfortable. Oh and the shirt is now on sale omg.
TL:DR - they're super dooper rad.

THE DRAYCOTT HOTEL
I live in London, so obviously the best place to go on holiday for my birthday is...um...London. No BUT SERIOUSLY GUYS it was great. We did our favourite things in town, and then walked back to the Draycott and it only took twenty minutes. We could pretend we lived in the centre of the city, which is an impossibility for most people in the world (*the London housing market sucks emoji*), and also they left a teddy bear on our bed, and there was a working fireplace. If that ain't luxury, I don't wanna know what luxury is. I also really liked how all the rooms were named after old theatre superstars, and they put the name of the person staying on the door. But most of all I liked the shortbread and hot chocolate they serve everyday in the evening in the living room. That was some right ho' Jeeves shiz.

FEAR ITSELF

Fear Itself, the new film by Charlie Lyne, is now on iPlayer. I saw it for the first time a couple of days ago and was blown away, much like that popcorn and Pepsi is being blown out of that girl's hands. It's brilliant, immersive and beautiful, and completely unexpected. Also that guy I'm in a band with did the score. And I love it despite that! Just in time for Halloween too.

MISS L FIRE AW15
I wrote about Miss L Fire shoes quite a lot over the summer, they did some amazing bird decorated glittery silver sandals (yup) and I was understandably enthused. Well their AW15 collection is filled with just as many gems. For example these tan Whistler ankle boots, these preppy burgandy loafers, or the Maude's I'm wearing with this skirt from Lola May. These shoes are majorly comforable and come in four colours. FOUR. You know who I think would really approve of these? Duckie fromPretty In Pink, and if that's not a reason to wear a pair of shoes then we can't be friends anymore and I'm coming over to get my DVDs back.

STYLE DISSECTION: THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK

The lives (and wardrobes) of three bored women in a small town in Massachusets are completely changed by the arrival of a very rich and mysterious stranger. Then then play a nuts game of tennis. Witches Of Eastwick, based on the 1984 novel by John Updike, is a movie I can watch over and over again. Mainly because of the golden triangle of Cher, Susan and Michelle. And also because of their extremely excellent hair. I wanted to cover their outfits this week because they're great inspiration for a squad goals worthy Halloween costume. You just need to rope in a couple of pals - it's also pretty fun to dress as Jack Nicholson in the film, you just need a tuxedo with long shorts instead of trousers, and high top sneakers. Oh, and a teeny ponytail.

OK, let's start at the beginning. When we first meet the ladies they're looking like this: Susan AKA Jane is very, very buttoned up. Her hair is tightly pulled back into a long braid, and after recently getting divorced she is mourning the end of her relationship, filling her days with her job as a music teacher, and her evenings with movie nights sat next to her two best friends.

I do really like that maxi skirt with matching braces/suspenders she's wearing when she's conducting.
Then we have Cher AKA Alex, an artist who wears a lot of black and comfortable jersey clothing, and just seems highly uninspired by the goings on in the town of Eastwick. She does dress well though. She likes cowboy boots with tracksuit trousers and maxi skirts with crop tops that tie up at the front.

Finally we have Sukie. Sukie is the youngest of the three women, she's living alone with five blue-eyed blonde children in a perfect country house, and also has a job at the local paper. She's understandably completely knackered. Sukie lives in pastels, pretty dresses, and sleeveless blouses. I remember that this was exactly how my mum dressed in the '80s, even the glasses.

All three of them undergo a change in their outlooks and style. But the person who is the most altered has to be Jane, the tightly wound cellist. Sarandon explodes on the screen, she's stunning to look at. I love what happens to her. It's probably one of the best style transformations to ever happen in a film, and Jane is one of the best looking characters in film, ever.
I mean, BAM.

There was a lot of tension on set because the part of Alex was promised to both Susan and Cher, and I think Susan had to back down. But I'm so glad she ended up being Jane, she's blissful to watch. My favourite of her outfits is when she's walking around the supermarket eating pickles straight out the jar (something I also enjoy doing), wearing an orange and purple dress, pumps with white frilly socks and Jane's trademark mirrored sunglasses.

Damn, that makeup too.
Alex's change is less dramatic but still there's a lot to enjoy. For example she starts wearing pigtails, dungarees with a white vest, and this high-necked white shirt thing that looks a bit military and a bit Brian May. But, you know, good.

Bleurgh cherries.
Sukie sticks to her pastels but also starts wearing a hat, and also awesome silky pyjamas with her pristine white keds. It really works for her. Also I cannot get enough of Michelle's face in this film, man oh man, what a face she has.

As with all good friends, they look best when they're hanging out together and dressing together. In silky robes and pyjamas. Also HAIR, HAIR, HAIR.

Another classic Jane moment is when she's wearing a gold skirt, a matching gold top, and gold shoes. Especially because her hair is also quite #gold.

Alex's white boho look and sandals here is noteworthy and requires copying.
See also Sukie's glum normcore look and Jane's "I'm an aerobic instructor who smokes, get over it" vibe.
By the end of the film they've all found a middle ground between who they were and who that guy encouraged them to become. Jane is wearing her glasses again, but looks much more free in her culrs and white slinky cardigan. Sukie is keeping the baggy monotone shirts, thanks very much. And Alex has dug out this rad bit of chunky knitwear.

I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

I DIDN'T DRESS UP FOR HALLOWEEN
I'm into people dressing up for Halloween, and I feel like every year it gets bigger and bigger in the UK. I was in Brighton and saw so many excellent costumes (including a couple who looked like they were in their office clothes from the back, but from the front they both had sad grey faces and hair. They were also a bit drunk and swaying slightly, so the final effect was two zombies who'd gone for it hard at the work party). My night was made by a group of Harry Potter fans standing outside a pub, I don't think I'll ever forget how wonderful it was to see a very convincing Voldemort having a fag with Mad Eye Moody, Sirius Black, Hagrid and Hermione. It was like witnessing a parallel universe where they'd all forgotten their differences and become best buds. Meanwhile I just plonked on this cape, my new dress from Zara and my boots and said, "Um I feel kinda witchy". I suck.

ASOS SS16

"Embroidery" and "embroidered". That's what I search for most on ASOS because, goddammit, they do it well. I'm pleased to say after looking at what they're planning for SS16 last week this isn't going to change any time soon. A bomber jacket that would make Andie from PRETTY IN PINK weak at the knees, worn with that pink sequin dress for a volcanic ensemble. I also like that they're carrying on with the agenda to make the best ankle boots in all of the world. I'm gonna buy all three pairs and then mix and match, maybe. No, definitely. If you can't wait till all this goodness drops on the site then maybe look at this embroidered dress I'm currently debating whether to buy. It's a midi lovers dream.

STUDIO MOON
My friend Moon (yes, best name ever, agreed) makes bags that are a design marvel. They can be worn as backpacks or cross body bags, they have a secret pocket under the flap and, despite looking compact, are surprisingly roomy. But my favourite thing about these bags has to be the fact you get to carry around a piece of Moon's artwork all day. She makes beautiful prints (the Moon one is my favourite) that play around with ideas of form and colour in a way that feels fresh and beautiful, and each bag has some of her art on the flap. I'm gonna be giving these bags to a lot of people for Christmas, because everyone who has one finds it quickly becomes their everyday-oh-god-what-if-anything-ever-happened-to-it bag. If you want to know more get in touch with Moon via her Instagram.

BODEN BLACK AND BLUE

OK so Boden have actually nailed the Clueless wardrobe outfit picker thing that Cher uses. No, I mean, for real. You can go on their website to this lady in her bra and pants and then put clothes on her from Boden to build your look. It's where I decided I wanted to wear this fur coat with their silk cami, bead necklace, Bloomsbury bag (which is navy suede and black leather - a combination that should be a no-no but actually is a yes-yes) AND the best skinny jeans I've ever tried on. I sort of hate jeans. They never feel right - I have a short torso, it's fine I'm dealing with it. But these ones are perfect. They're high rise but not so high they're digging into your tummy when you're just trying to eat a burrito, and they're super soft and stretchy. I was going to wear them with these amamamamazing bow shoes, which also come in *gold*, but then cowed to my worn out feet and went with the more comfortable option, these suede booties. These photos were all taken by my friend Laetitia from Mademoiselle Robot after we went for lunch and made fun of the man next to us who complained about his avocado smash.

WE MADE A CHRISTMAS EP

We're hearty fans of festive times, with all the great (and less great) they bring. It's a magical time with a big dollop of full-on realness. You might get to eat loads of good food, but you might also have a massive fight with your brother.
With that in mind, this year we made a Christmas EP (called 'Christmas' because we're just THAT good at naming things). Below is the single from it and a video I made from found footage AKA other peoples' home movies. We're going to be playing acoustically before a screening of Elf at the Hackney Picturehouse on the 19th of December, but in case you can't get there you can find the EP at one of the places below:
